How PolarSeal Developed An Advanced Ostomy Adhesive

Ostomy Case Study

Introduction

Global manufacturers of ostomy and continence devices rely on PolarSeal to provide a host of complex, multi-layer components used in the manufacture of their products. Understanding that product reliability and cost-effective solutions are vital in this competitive market, as well as the need for ongoing technical support for new product development to improve the quality of life for stoma care patients.

the problem

The client had a smooth/hard to stick film that is required for a bag to stop moisture or smell escaping but very hard to stick adhesive components to that are essential to enable bag opening and closure to release liquids.

It is common practice to have to heat up bags for 24 hours after manufacture to get adhesive components to adhere to bags properly.

the solution

We worked with adhesive chemists to create an adhesive that cut through the bag film surface release agent and stick to very smooth surfaces instantly.

We produced trial rolls with adhesive coater and tested parts and kept adjusting the adhesive formula until we hit the perfect combination.

the Result

We found a solution that had no requirement to heat bags and components were instantly adhered to bags passing necessary testing regulation.
