Meet Arran, One of Our Web Processing Engineers

Arran, our web processing engineer

What do you do at PolarSeal?

I’m a Web Processing Engineer here at PolarSeal and am responsible for running one of our machines which makes diagnostic testing strips for our clients. The machine itself is a great piece of machinery and can manufacture within the tightest tolerances of +/- 50 microns across a 300mm width which makes for interesting work.

Tell us about your polarseal journey so far

I joined the company over 10 years ago and this was my first job as a 17 year old, fresh out of school. I started as a temporary member of staff packing product in the clean room and progressed to a full time, permanent member of staff from there. Once trained up on the machinery, I worked on one of the slit / rewind machines for a few years before moving onto the machine I am working on now.

How were you supported through your role(s)?

In my first full time position, I had two of our most senior members of staff train me on how to use the slit and rewind machine. We went through many training procedures, utilising Standard Operating Procedures amongst more “hands on” approaches. It’s actually one of the best parts of this job as there is always something to learn with the machines we are working on. Some of the team have been here for over 25 years and they are always on hand to help if needed.

why have you stayed at polarseal?

It’s a nice place to work! You get into a good routine, know what’s expected of you and the wage is good too. They recognise hard work and trust you with more responsibility as you progress within your role which is fair and satisfying too. I also really love the boys I work with here, it’s a really good team culture to be a part of!

why should someone join polarseal?

If you are looking for an introduction into the world of work, PolarSeal are really supportive and encouraging. They take the time to train you properly and don’t judge you when you ask questions.

what's one of your favourite memories working with polarseal?

It’s really hard to pick just one! The general company atmosphere is great and it just makes you feel great, being a part of one big team manufacturing quality medical components for a variety of global clients.
